Modern, non-conventional method for microbial depollution of phenolic waste-water, to consolidate the biologic diversity
OBJECTIVES
  • Developing a complex detection system, at nanoscale level, of phenolic compounds in water coming from different sectors of industry;
  • Building a database containing determination methods as well as depollution techniques of waters;
  • Building an experimental model plant for waters dephenolation, transferred to beneficiary;
  • Increasing the visibility and the international impact of Romanian research in area of advanced, modern analysis techniques;
  • Proposing a patent and a PC7.
DESCRIPTION

DEFENOL aims the scientific substantiation and the development of a modern, non-conventional technology to reconstruct and consolidate the biological and ecological diversity.

The project approaches:

  • Methods and techniques for detecting, at nanoscale level, the phenolic compounds from different water sources;
  • The action of various microorganisms in the remediation of phenolic waters;
  • The influence of various non-conventional water treatment methods on the degradation of phenolic compounds.

One will follow different biochemical processes that can occur inside the cells due to the water treatment, especially the degradation products arising from these treatments (by analytical techniques such as: liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometer (LC-MS) and LC-MS-MS, NMR spectrometry, atomic absorption spectrometry, RES). A detoxification technology for identifying the compounds will be proposed and a patent proposal will be submitted.

RESULTS OBTAINED

Stage 1

1.1 Extraction and chromatographic separation of phenols from water sources;
1.2 Chromatographic comparison of phenols from natural sources using standards;
1.3 Spectrometric characterization (MS, RMN, IR) of each phenol.


Stage 2


2.1 Identification of degradation structure;
2.2 Characterization of phenol-microorganism interaction;
2.3 Determination of phenolic mixture influence on microorganisms tested .


Stage 3

3.1 Development and realization  of cells immobilization method;
3.2 Design and production of dephenolation plant – ME;
3.3 Experimenting the plant for optimization.


Stage 4

4.1 Elaboration of water dephenolation technology.
