Arsenic underground water contamination in Western Romania : occurrence, influence on human health
OBJECTIVES
  • Arsenic sources definition;
  • Defining the immobilization mechanisms in soils and superficial geological systems;
  • Study of the water dynamics, as main vector of the arsenic underground pollution;
  • Investigation of the mobilization processes and arsenic transfer from soil and rocks towards underground waters;
  • Assessment of the risk induced by the exceeding arsenic from drinking water on human health.
DESCRIPTION
RESULTS ESTIMATED
  • Spatial delimitation of the areas from western Romania, having excessive arsenic concentrations in the underground waters ; representation on a tridimensional digital map of the concentration distribution;
  • Theoretic model regarding the arsenic mobilization and transfer from soil and rocks towards underground waters, applied to the concrete situation of the investigated areas;
  • Obtaining decisive situations regarding the risk induced by the arsenic presence in drinking water on human health;
  • Maps regarding the content of total As as well as As(III) and As (V) species;
  • Correlating data about As contamination with data regarding: geology(natural fund), climatic and hydrologic information;
  • General and unspecific assessment of the possible risks on the health state of the population exposed to arsenic from the studied areas;
  • Papers.
